During United’s pre-season tour of the United States , Mainoo suffered an injury that ruled him out of the team’s first few matches. Having recovered, he made his first appearance of the 2023–24 season in a 3–0 win over Everton , winning the man of the match award, and made his continental debut against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League , also coming off the bench in a 3–3 draw.
In January 2024, the midfielder scored his first professional goal in a 4–2 FA Cup victory over Newport County , and 3 days later, he scored the winning goal in a 4–3 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers , which was voted Premier League Goal of the Month for February 2024.
In April of the same year, he became the youngest Red Devils player to score a goal against Liverpool in the North West Derby , at 18 years and 354 days, surpassing Wayne Rooney , who was 19 years and 83 days old when he scored in the derby played in January 2005, and the second youngest to do so.
In that season’s FA Cup final, Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho secured United’s victory over Manchester City with a goal each. In this way, as they had done in the past in the FA Youth Cup, the club’s young duo managed to win their first FA Cup title .
