Arsenal plan to beat Liverpool and Manchester United to Marc Guehi by offering swap deal

Arsenal are in the race to sign Marc Guehi this summer and they hope to strike a deal with Crystal Palace by offering Eddie Nketiah in exchange for the centre-back.

Guehi was already on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the country, but his performances for England at Euro 2024 further enhanced his reputation.

The 24-year-old partnered John Stones in the heart of the England defence for the majority of the tournament and was thoroughly impressive in doing so, taking his tally of international caps to 17 in the process.

After his performances in Germany Guehi looks likely to have cemented his place in the England team for years to come, although that will be dependent on the views of whoever replaces Gareth Southgate as manager.

Plenty of big clubs were clearly impressed, though, with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all linked with the former Chelsea defender.

Guehi is under contract at Selhurst Park until 2026 and, while the club clearly want to keep hold of one of their best players, the Eagles would be willing to accept around £70m for him.

The Sunday Sport reports that Arsenal are looking to bring this price down by offering Nketiah as part of the deal.

The 25-year-old has featured regularly under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, and did enough to win his first England cap last season, but is now thought to be surplus to requirements.

Palace have long been credited with an interest in the striker, with Arsenal willing to let him go last January for £30m, but no deal was done.

The Gunners are now hoping that the interest remains and they can drive down the price for Guehi by sending Nketiah in the opposite direction.

Liverpool are also keen on signing the England star after Joel Matip left the club at the end of his contract, although they still have Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez competing for places at centre-back.

Palace are not under great pressure to sell Guehi this summer after already seeing Michael Olise leave for Bayern Munich in a £60m deal.

However, they have already brought in a new centre-back in Morocco international Chadi Riad from Real Betis.
