Real Madrid held internal talks about signing former Manchester City star – report

Ever since missing out on the signing of Leny Yoro, Real Madrid are assessing their options to reinforce the centre-back position this summer.

One of the names that appears to be doing the rounds is Aymeric Laporte, who plies his trade at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

The 30-year-old was part of the Spain squad that won the UEFA Euro 2024 earlier this month and has seemingly piqued the interest of the Merengues.

Internal talks held over Laporte

Indeed, according to The Athletic, Real Madrid have already held internal talks about signing Aymeric Laporte from Al Nassr, although they consider that a move for him will be complicated.

The former Manchester City defender could be open to the possibility of a move back to Europe as he aims to be a part of the Spain squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Sources at the Saudi Arabian club state that there have been no contacts between them and Real Madrid over Laporte at any point so far.

Furthermore, even if the prospect of reaching an agreement between the two teams might not be an issue, the defender’s wages – worth around €20 million per year – could be a hurdle as Real Madrid would be reluctant to meet those figures.

The report further adds that Laporte was tempted to leave Al Nassr not very long ago and the idea of joining a club like Real Madrid appealed to him.

But in the end, finances could become an issue as Los Blancos do not intend to break their wage structure for any player.
