Real Madrid yet to table renewal offer for Ancelotti-favourite defender – report

Ferland Mendy enjoyed a season of resurgence in 2023/24, becoming a key presence as Real Madrid won the lot.

The 29-year-old French left-back always had an admirer in Carlo Ancelotti and the manager’s admiration for the player only got stronger in the campaign gone by – the Italian even went on to name him the best defensive left-back in the world.

Mendy’s contract with Real Madrid expires in 2025 and even though the club are interested in Alphonso Davies, the former’s contract renewal has become a priority now.

Still no talks

Reports in Spain suggested that initial talks over a new deal for Mendy had already taken place.

But now, The Athletic states that Real Madrid are yet to table any proposal over a renewal for the 29-year-old left-back.

The coaching staff at the club very much want the French international to stay, but he is yet to receive any offer from the Spanish and European champions.

As such, Mendy is still waiting for Real Madrid to approach him and begin talks over a new deal.

Since joining Real Madrid from Lyon in 2019, Mendy has played 170 times in all competitions, scoring six goals and setting up ten more.

While his attacking capabilities have been questioned, the Frenchman has always been a solid presence defensively, something that Ancelotti values greatly.

With the injury problems also seemingly being a thing of the past, Mendy appears likely to stay put at Real Madrid. And while an offer for renewal might not have been made yet, talks could begin soon.
