Manchester United prospect agrees new long-term contract with Red Devils

Manchester United prospect Sam Mather has agreed a new contract with the club which will run until 2027, according to reports.

The 19-year-old academy talent is yet to make a first team appearance for the Red Devils, but is clearly highly thought of at the club.

The winger has been involved in first team training and was an FA Youth Cup winner in 2022, starting every game of the trophy-lifting campaign.

Mather suffered a serious injury after that FA Youth Cup success, hampering his progress, but he has returned to fitness and spent time on a flexi-loan at Rochdale last season.

Manchester United created the ‘bespoke’ flexi-loan agreements which allow youngsters to gain first team experience but still be involved regularly with the Red Devils.

On this short-term deal, Mather made 10 National League appearances for Rochdale, scoring two goals.

The teenager was also in action alongside some big names in the recent pre-season friendly win over Rangers, replacing Jadon Sancho at half-time of the 2-0 victory.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Mather has agreed a new contract with Manchester United, running until 2027, with an option for a further year.
