Real Madrid’s friendly clash vs Chelsea under threat due to tropical storm

Real Madrid are not having the best of luck with the weather on their tour of the United States.

For their match against AC Milan in Chicago, there was a threat of thunderstorms, although it was not too high. In the end, it did not materialise and the game was played without any problems.

But in New Jersey, Real Madrid did have to suffer the inclement weather as rain and lightning struck 12 minutes into the Clasico against Barcelona. The match had to be stopped for almost an hour and a half, although it was eventually completed.

More weather concerns

Now, AS reports that Real Madrid could encounter further weather issues that could threaten their final friendly on US soil against Chelsea.

Indeed, the match, set to be played in Charlotte, North Carolina, is under threat of tropical storm Debby, which is moving in from the Caribbean Sea and will make landfall this Monday morning in Tallahassee, in the northwest of the state of Florida.

For now, the threat is only limited to Florida and South Carolina, although considering that Charlotte is only 600 km from Tallahassee, where ‘Debby’ is set to make landfall, nothing can be ruled out at this juncture.

There was already a prediction of a lot of rain in Charlotte this week, more so on Tuesday when Real Madrid are set to play Chelsea. Now on top of that, there is the threat of tropical storm ‘Debby’ looming.

It must be remembered that the protocol in the US states that if lightning strikes within an eight-mile radius (almost 13 km) of the stadium, teams go to the locker room and fans must take cover for at least half an hour.

Each lightning strike in that area resets the clock and until there is no lightning strike for half an hour within those eight miles, the game is not played.
