Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed earlier this month that the squad was closed for this summer and that there will be no more transfers, be it incoming or outgoing.
Despite the stance, though, the Spanish and European champions remain on the lookout for opportunities to strengthen the squad and one such market opportunity has seemingly taken them to Chelsea.
Real Madrid, PSG battle for Josh Acheampong
Indeed, according to Miguel Delaney of The Independent, Real Madrid have taken an interest in Chelsea teenage right-back Josh Acheampong.
The Merengues are not alone in tracking the 18-year-old talent, though, as French champions PSG are also keen on the youngster.
Acheampong is a product of the Chelsea youth academy and is knocking on the first-team doors, with the Englishman tipped for a bright future.
However, given the Blues’ inflated squad and possible issues with the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules, sales will be necessary and Acheampong could end up being a casualty.
Alerted by the situation, Real Madrid and PSG have taken an interest in acquiring the services of Acheampong, with the report suggesting that the two European heavyweights are weighing up an offer of worth around €15 million for the youngster.
Real Madrid do need a long-term heir to Dani Carvajal in the right-back position and while Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to be their priority target, someone like Acheampong could also be an option, more so considering Lucas Vazquez might not be at the club in a year.
Acheampong’s contract with Chelsea runs until 2026, but considering that any revenue from his sale would be written down as ‘pure profit’ when it comes to Profit and Sustainability Rules, a sale is not ruled out, with Real Madrid being alert to the situation.
