There has been plenty of speculation about Eder Militao’s future at Real Madrid, with many questioning his form and the potential bids coming in from Saudi Arabia.
Such uncertainties have led to discussions about his place in the team and whether he can return to his best.
However, according to reports from AS, the Real Madrid coaching staff has complete faith in Militao, and following the Super Cup final against Atalanta, the message was clear: “He is returning to his best.”
Militao’s gradual progression
It is important to remember that Militao ended the previous season with many doubts hanging over him.
Yet, his performances during the Copa America demonstrated that his physical condition was not a concern. His pre-season outings only solidified that belief, and the Super Cup matches served as the final confirmation.
In the match held in Warsaw, Militao stood out as one of Real Madrid’s top performers. He led the team in recoveries with seven, ranked second in total interventions with 73 (just behind Jude Bellingham’s 75), and completed two successful tackles.
Furthermore, he was the second-best in successful passes with 53, just one behind Ferland Mendy, achieving a 91.4% success rate.
Militao also blocked two shots and displayed confidence throughout the match, particularly when he pressed opponents with the certainty that he could recover his position if needed.
Injury setback has been rough
Before a significant injury during a clash with Athletic Bilbao, which sidelined him for 232 days, Militao led all centre-backs in duels won (532).
He was fourth in interceptions (152), fifth in recoveries (548), and fifth in headed clearances (198). His past achievements highlight his importance to Real Madrid, and his recent performances suggest that the old Militao is making a strong comeback.
Although there was a brief scare during the match when a clearance nearly resulted in an own goal, it was more of an isolated incident rather than a sign of declining form.
With David Alaba out until November, and no immediate plans to dip into the transfer market unless the perfect opportunity arises, Militao’s return to top form is crucial for the team.
His recovery exponentially increases his value to the squad, and there is no doubt that Real Madrid’s coaching staff has full confidence in his abilities.
