Joan Martínez, the ‘next Sergio Ramos’?

Over the last few years, Real Madrid have been assembling all the pieces of the puzzle to form the best team in all of Europe. The squad is filled from top to bottom with some of the biggest talents in the world, most of whom are still in their early to mid-20s, and those players will be expected to lead the club to success in all competitions for years to come.

Players like Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham and the newest arrival Kylian Mbappe are the biggest cornerstone pieces to Real Madrid’s future. However, the big stars in the starting XI will not be the only important players who will help guide the club to future success.

Players like Arda Guler, Endrick, and Brahim Diaz among others are some of the best youngsters in the world who might not have a place in the starting lineup but will instead be major impact players off the bench. With so many games being played this coming season, Real Madrid will have to rely on their squad players.

One player that Carlo Ancelotti may have to call on at some point this season is 16-year-old Real Madrid Castilla center-back Joan Martinez. The defender is on his first pre-season tour with the main team and many believe he has the potential to be the next Sergio Ramos.

Do Real Madrid already have the ‘next Sergio Ramos’?

Many fans may not be familiar with Joan but the youngster has all the tools to grow into a top defender for Real Madrid. Let’s see if he can fulfil his potential.

The defender is 6’2″ and has incredible pace despite his size. Martinez has regularly been able to make recovery runs and tackles thanks to his athleticism and ability to read the game. To add on top of that he is a great ball-playing centre-back and also has the ability to go forward from the heart of defence.

With David Alaba still recovering from a long-term injury and Nacho no longer at the club, Martinez could find his way into Carlo Ancelotti’s match-day squad. Let’s see if an opportunity comes knocking.
