Lamine Yamal has been the talk of the town in Spanish football over the past few months. The Barcelona prodigy has indeed had a brilliant summer, where he notably helped Spain lift the European Championship.
Yamal’s connection with Dani Olmo and Nico Williams in the final third was, in fact, instrumental in La Roja’s dominance in Euro 2024.
Yamal has shown no signs of stopping either. He has started the new season with a bang, notably racking up a goal and an assist in the first two matches.
Joaquin Maroto on Lamine Yamal
In light of Yamal’s brilliant performances of late, football pundit Joaquin Maroto has claimed he is the only Barcelona player who can ‘start’ in the current variant of Real Madrid.
“Lamine Yamal is the only player who would start for Real Madrid,” Maroto told Onze TV3.
Maroto believes the current Real Madrid squad is indeed way too strong and better than Barcelona.
Very few can blame him either, as Los Blancos boast the services of players like Vinicius Junior, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham and countless other talented stars.
The reigning European champions further enhanced their quality through the acquisitions of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick, who recently made history by becoming the youngest foreign player to score for the club in La Liga.
However, Maroto believes Yamal can easily start for Real Madrid, perhaps partnering Mbappe and Vinicius in the three-man attack, with Jude Bellingham operating as a number ten.
