Real Madrid stalwart will reclaim his old role in derby showdown without Mbappe – report

Kylian Mbappe’s absence from the upcoming Madrid derby opens up a familiar opportunity for Jude Bellingham to return to the position where he made a massive impact during his debut season with Real Madrid.

According to reports from MARCA, Bellingham will once again join forces with Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo in the attacking trio.

Interestingly, this role was key to his impressive goal-scoring form last season, a period when he exceeded all expectations by contributing significantly to the team’s attack.

Adjustments for Bellingham

Bellingham’s role in the attack had been reshaped following the arrival of Mbappe and the departure of Toni Kroos this season.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti had to adjust his tactics to accommodate Mbappe while also filling the void left by Kroos.

As a result, the midfielder was pushed further back into the midfield, a shift that has limited his goal-scoring chances compared to last year.

His early performances were outstanding, with a goal in almost every match, but the change in his position this season has led to fewer opportunities to find the back of the net.

A chance to shine

However, with Mbappe sidelined due to injury, Bellingham is set to reclaim the more advanced position he thrived in. This could be a pivotal moment for the Englishman, as the derby against Atletico Madrid presents an opportunity to rediscover his scoring touch.

Last season, despite his remarkable form, Bellingham struggled to score in any of the four derbies he participated in, whether in the League, Cup, or Spanish Super Cup.

Now, with the chance to operate in a position that brought him so much success, Bellingham will be eager to change his fortunes and make his mark in one of the most important fixtures of Real Madrid’s season.

If he can replicate the form from his debut season, it could give both him and Real Madrid the attacking boost they need in Mbappe’s absence.
