Real Madrid identify Tottenham Hotspur defender as alternative to top right-back target – report

Dani Carvajal is going strong as Real Madrid’s first-choice right-back and is in the form of his life, having won the Euros and UEFA Champions League over the past season.

With the player 32 years of age already, however, the club is looking for a new face to take over the reins in the position and has identified Trent Alexander Arnold as their top priority.

The Liverpool star’s contract at Anfield ends next summer and Los Blancos are hoping they can lure him to Madrid with the promise of a special project.

As revealed by Caught Offside, however, they are also ensuring they have a backup plan in place should the transaction not work out.

The option in London

As revealed by the outlet, the Merengues are eyeing Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro as an alternative should Alexander-Arnold not arrive next summer.

Carlo Ancelotti appreciates Porro’s skills and profile and sees him as a strong offensive alternative to the Liverpool star. At just 25 years of age, moreover, he has his best years ahead of him at the elite level.

As a player born in Spain, Real Madrid are optimistic that the right offer can coerce Porro to accept a return home. The deal, however, will not be financially simple as the transfer fee Spurs expect is around the €65 million mark.

Porro’s current contract with Tottenham runs out in the summer of 2028, leaving no scope for Real Madrid to negotiate much in terms of transfer fees. Needless to say, the financial hurdle may well be the deal-breaker for the Merengues in the long run.

As it stands, however, all efforts are directed towards the Liverpool star who offers not only a more established presence but also comes as a free agent should everything go to plan.
