Real Madrid former academy gem dreams of a return to the club – report

Nico Paz’s international debut brought the former Real Madrid Castilla star back into the limelight, especially after Lionel Messi showered praise on his maturity and quality.

The youngster, currently playing for Como in Serie A, has after all been training under the tutelage of Cesc Fabregas and has been improving with regular minutes under his belt.

Paz opted to leave Real Madrid last summer looking at the fierce competition for a starting spot in midfield. Carlo Anceolotti’s general hesitance towards homegrown stars did not help his case, and a departure was thus seen with good eyes.

The dream lives on

As revealed in a recent update by MARCA (h/t Madrid Xtra), the primary objective behind Paz’s departure was to play regular first-team football at the highest level and show his ability and make a name for himself.

However, he left with the dream of returning to Real Madrid alive and holds a special place for the club in his heart. A reunion in the coming years is not ruled out.

Florentino Perez and co. have taken notice of Paz’s growth and maintain a keen eye on his development. After all, they still have leverage over his future despite selling him in the summer.

The Merengues retain 50% of Paz’s rights and even have a buyback clause that is valid until 2027. They also have the right of first refusal if any club attempts to lure him away from Como.

It thus remains to be seen if the management sees Paz as a valid option given the uncertain future of Dani Ceballos and Luka Modric. At just 20 years of age, the Argentine phenom still has his entire career ahead of him.

In six appearances for Como this season, Paz has provided two assists and has created five big chances for Fabregas’ side.
