Jamie Carragher, a well-known figure in Liverpool’s history, has expressed his views regarding Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr.
He believes that while Real Madrid aimed to secure what they thought was the best player in the world, they already had an exceptional talent in their squad: Vinicius Jr.
During a discussion on CBS Sports Golazo, Carragher, along with fellow football icons Thierry Henry and Micah Richards, delved into the topic of potential winners of the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
Carragher made it clear that he sees Vinicius Jr. as a standout player for Real Madrid.
“Real Madrid thought they bought the best player in the world (Mbappe) when they already had the best player in the world (Vinicius). Enjoy the Ballon d’Or Vinicius,” said the Liverpool legend.
Vinicius Jr. has certainly sparked mixed opinions among fans and analysts alike. However, he made a strong statement in Real Madrid’s recent match against Borussia Dortmund, where he scored a vital hat-trick.
This remarkable performance helped his team recover from a 0-2 deficit, ultimately leading them to a 5-2 victory.
Thierry Henry’s take
Henry, reflecting on the match, voiced his thoughts on Real Madrid’s resilience, indicating that such performances are typical of the club.
He pointed out that the comeback was not surprising, given Real Madrid’s history of performing well in challenging situations. He noted that he had witnessed similar scenarios repeatedly, demonstrating the club’s ability to thrive under pressure.
“I don’t know why you’re still surprised by Real Madrid, I’ve seen that first half before, I’ve seen the second half, I’ve seen that result before, time and time again, I’m surprised you’re surprised,” he said.
Henry also acknowledged Vinicius Jr.’s growing importance within the team, stating that with Karim Benzema’s departure, this squad has now become Vinicius Jr.’s team.
“This is Vinicius Jr, this is his team, he’s the man,” he claimed.
