Real Madrid’s 5-2 win over Borussia Dortmund set the dressing room’s morale right ahead of a much-anticipated El Clasico scheduled this weekend.
Just when it seemed that the men in white were entering the game at the Santiago Bernabeu on a high, however, the club revealed injuries to both Thibaut Courtois and Rodrygo in what came as a huge blow to the manager’s plans.
Now, however, Mario Cortegana brings to light a massive development that comes as good news for the defending champions as Brahim Diaz appears set to make his return.
Ready to face Barcelona?
Indeed, as relayed by the The Athletic journalist, Diaz is expected to enter the squad list to face Barcelona this week as he has made significant progress in his recovery.
The attacking midfielder was initially expected to be out for close to three months after injuring his long abductor muscle but has fast-tracked his return in what comes as a much-needed boost.
With the player back in just over a third of the initially expected time, the manager is gifted with a promising option in the final third who has proven to have plenty of goals in him in recent times.
Brahim was spotted training with the rest of the group today and if nothing changes, he could be in the squad against Barcelona later this week.
This season, the 25-year-old has made six appearances for Real Madrid and recorded one goal and one assist, primarily playing as an option off the bench to make an instant impact.
Needless to say, Diaz is not expected to start against Barcelona especially given that he has just recovered.
With Rodrygo unavailable, however, he could have important minutes in the second half of the coming Clasico.
