Official: Real Madrid open investigation into racist abuse against Barcelona starlet during El Clasico

Real Madrid were on the receiving end of a brutal 4-0 defeat at the hands of FC Barcelona last night at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga.

It was an overall disappointing display from the reigning Spanish and European champions, who were outplayed by their rivals, especially in the second half.

Barcelona’s second-half domination sparked some unsavoury scenes in the second half as Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal was subjected to racist abuse by a section of supporters.

“Real Madrid strongly condemns any type of behaviour involving racism, xenophobia or violence in football and sport, and deeply regrets the insults uttered by a few fans last night in one of the corners of the stadium,” the statement read.

“Real Madrid has opened an investigation to locate and identify the perpetrators of these regrettable and despicable insults, in order to adopt the appropriate disciplinary and judicial measures.”

Real Madrid have taken a stern stance against racism in Spanish football in the recent past, with their own player, Vinicius Jr. being targeted by opposition fans on numerous occasions.

As such, it does not come as a surprise to see Los Blancos react swiftly to the incident at the Santiago Bernabeu and open an investigation to identify the perpetrators.

Real Madrid will work with La Liga to identify the culprits, following which suitable action will be taken against those involved in the vile incident.
