According to a report from Fichajes, Premier League side Liverpool and Real Madrid are gearing up for a potential transfer battle over RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba.
Real Madrid’s interest in Lukeba is no longer a secret and his impressive showings have captured the interest of several European football powerhouses.
For that matter, both Real Madrid and Liverpool view him as an essential investment to bolster their defences for the long haul.
RB Leipzig, however, appear reluctant to let Lukeba go easily. Nevertheless, both Liverpool and Real Madrid are aware of his release clause, which is set at approximately €90 million.
This clause provides the two clubs with a significant advantage, allowing them to negotiate with Leipzig regarding the player’s future.
Lukeba has a contract until 2029
At Leipzig, Lukeba’s contract ensures him a stable position, as he has already become a crucial part of the team’s defensive setup.
Earning an annual salary of €6 million, he is considered an integral component of their system. For the time being, Leipzig’s management is keen on retaining the French defender.
However, the prospect of interest from renowned clubs like Liverpool could alter the situation, particularly given Liverpool’s need to prepare for the future by replacing veteran defenders such as Virgil van Dijk.
Real Madrid’s interest
Real Madrid are also closely monitoring Lukeba’s progress. With experienced defenders like Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao already on their roster, the club recognise that bringing in a young and talented centre-back would be a wise decision.
They feel that Lukeba has the attributes to seamlessly integrate into Madrid’s long-term vision for their squad.
For the defender, the chance to play in either the Premier League or La Liga represents a significant opportunity to elevate his career.
The fierce competition between Liverpool and Real Madrid, along with the potential financial incentives involved, will be crucial factors in determining whether Leipzig reconsiders its position and allows the young defender to take the next step.
