Real Madrid’s defensive shortcomings came to the fore once again as they conceded three goals to succumb to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League.
It was a disastrous performance from the reigning European champions, who could now be in a state of bother, after winning just two of their four UCL group stage matches.
The loss to Milan has undoubtedly put immense pressure on head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who had earlier shifted his focus to the team’s defensive game.
Real Madrid have another problem
However, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid have another thing to worry about, other than their defensive shortcomings.
That is because the men in white are far from their best physical form and it has been evident in their last few performances.
Almost everyone is now complaining about Real Madrid’s physical levels, which has led to the player losing individual duels left and right.
Real Madrid notably ran much less than Milan last night. In fact, they have run less than their opponents in each of their four UCL matches.
Real Madrid ran 5 km less than Milan, 6 km against Borussia Dortmund, 12 km against Lille and 8 km against VfB Stuttgart.
This inability to keep up with opponents has highlighted Real Madrid’s physical shortcomings and in turn, putting pressure on physical trainer Antonio Pintus.
It was reported earlier that players are unhappy with Pintus’ methods. And as the scrutiny intensifies, it will be interesting to see whether or not Ancelotti opts for a staff rejig in the middle of the campaign.
