Up to nine FC Barcelona players participated in the UEFA EURO 2024, with several of them playing important roles in their respective national teams’ campaigns.
The performances of players like Lamine Yamal and Jules Kounde in this competition would have definitely been a source of pride for the Catalan club and its supporters.
However, as SPORT has reported, in addition to this pride, Barcelona have also earned a significant amount of money from the participation of their players in this competition. In fact, the Catalans have already collected more than €2.5 million for the loan of its players for the competition.
UEFA pays a club €10,000 every day for each of its players participating in the competition. This calculation starts ten days before a player’s national side starts its EURO campaign and ends when the side is eliminated from the competition.
However, this amount is distributed between two clubs if a player has changed club sides in the last two years, and has spent time at two different clubs during the qualifying phase for this tournament. Thus, Barcelona would receive a part of this income for Gundogan, while they will also get something for Ousmane Dembele.
Up to now, the Blaugranes have already gotten €220,000 for Lewandowski, €260,000 for Christensen, and €330,000 for Ter Stegen. They have also got €330,000 in total for Gundogan and Dembele. For each of their Spanish player, they have already gotten €320,000, while for Kounde they have gotten €300,000.
If Spain reaches the final, Barcelona would get another €100,000 for each player into their coffers. Thus, in such a scenario, their total income from UEFA can reach up to €3.2 million, while this amount will also exceed €3 million if France reaches the final.
Furthermore, FC Barcelona will receive compensation from UEFA for Pedri’s injury if his recovery period exceeds five weeks. Should the midfielder recover before the first league game of the next season, the Catalans will receive €300,000 from UEFA.
However, the Blaugranes will get nothing for Joao Felix or Joao Cancelo, as they were at FC Barcelona only on loan, and UEFA will pay Atletico Madrid and Manchester City for these two players.
