Carlo Ancelotti stands to create history if Real Madrid win the UEFA Super Cup

As Real Madrid gear up to face Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup, manager Carlo Ancelotti stands on the brink of making history.

A victory would not only secure the coveted title but also cement Ancelotti’s status as the most successful manager in Real Madrid’s illustrious history.

With 13 titles under his belt, Ancelotti is poised to equal Miguel Munoz’s record of 14 titles as a Real Madrid manager, a feat that has remained unchallenged for over half a century.

Munoz’s impressive haul includes 9 La Liga titles, 2 European Cups, 2 Spanish Cups, and 1 Intercontinental Cup. Ancelotti’s potential 15th title would mark the beginning of his third cycle with the club, further solidifying his legacy.

Modric on the brink too

The UEFA Super Cup final also presents an opportunity for Luka Modric to become the most successful player in Real Madrid’s history.

With 26 titles, Modric is currently tied with Nacho, but a win against Atalanta would propel him to the top of the list with 27 titles. This achievement would be a testament to Modric’s enduring excellence and dedication to the club.

Real Madrid’s dominance in European competitions is well-documented, but their record in the UEFA Super Cup is surprisingly modest. With only five titles, they are tied with Milan and Barcelona.

A win against Atalanta would give them sole ownership of the record and underscore their status as a European powerhouse.

A big game for Real Madrid

The UEFA Super Cup’s history explains Real Madrid’s relatively limited success in the competition. The tournament only began in 1973, and the club’s early European Cup victories did not provide opportunities to compete for the title.

However, with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, Real Madrid are poised to write a new chapter in their history and assert their dominance in the UEFA Super Cup.

The match also presents opportunities for individual players to make their mark. Dani Carvajal and Modric could become the first players to win the European Super Cup five times, while Carlo Ancelotti would tie with Pep Guardiola as the most successful coach in the competition.
