Erik ten Hag reveals his first impressions of Leny Yoro in Manchester United pre-season training

Erik ten Hag says Leny Yoro showed plenty of promise during his first training session with Manchester United.

Yoro completed his move to United on Thursday as he joined in a £52 million deal from Lille.

The 18-year-old, who turned down interest from Real Madrid to make the move to Old Trafford, has been handed the No.15 shirt and has been handed a start for United’s pre-season friendly against Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

Yoro took part in his first training session with his United teammates on Friday and Ten Hag believes the French centre-back immediately looked ‘comfortable’.

When asked if he is excited to see Yoro’s first game for United, Ten Hag told MUTV: ‘I think that’s the right word – very exciting, for him and for us.

‘We are so pleased we signed him. He’s a huge talent, and we’re really looking forward to working with him, to build him.

‘You could see he’s a player straight on the pitch yesterday in the training drills, so comfortable.

‘We’re really excited about him.’

Ten Hag also stressed that United’s academy players will also be given plenty of chances to impress during the club’s pre-season campaign this summer.

‘It’s about minutes but it’s about the squad, it’s about the club,’ Ten Hag said.

‘We want to build a clue and we need a strong academy.

‘We’re giving players a pathway to get through, see Kobbie Mainoo and [Alejandro] Garnacho, so we’re really looking forward [to see] who is the next one.’
