European giants still hopeful of extending Real Madrid target’s contract – ‘The chances are there’

Alphonso Davies’ contract situation at Real Madrid has become a major topic of interest, with top clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester United keeping a close eye on developments.

Real Madrid’s interest in the 24-year-old Canadian international is not new and as per reports, they remain the favourites to sign the left-back in the summer on a free transfer when his contract with the Bavarians expires.

Indeed, recent reports suggested that Bayern Munich had pretty much accepted that Davies would leave as a free agent after a breakdown in talks with AC Milan, although they have been trying to negotiate directly with the player himself.

Not giving up

And, now, Bayern Munich director Max Eberl has come out and stated that there is still a possibility that Davies can sign a new contract and stay at the club beyond 2025.

Indeed, when asked about the situation of the Canadian international and whether he could still be at the Allianz Arena next year in a recent interview, Eberl replied (h/t Florian Plettenberg):

“The chances are there.”

Eberl’s statement indicates that Bayern Munich have not thrown in the towel yet and still hope to try and convince Davies to continue, especially with the left-back regaining his form and prominence under Vincent Kompany.

On the other hand, it could also be an attempt to keep faces in the media while internally being aware that the player may no longer continue beyond the summer.

Davies will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with the club of his desire starting January and as such, time is running out for Bayern Munich.

If the Canadian opts to leave, Real Madrid are said to be at the front of the queue for his signing despite other clubs showing interest.
