It has not been an easy start to the season for Arda Guler, especially given the sky-high expectations around him.
While the player has done away with his fragile fitness and come back stronger, he is still far from receiving the prominence he would have hoped for as Carlo Ancelotti is spoilt for options in midfield.
His performances with the national team and in the few minutes he plays at the club level scream out for improved importance and regular starts but fall on deaf ears.
Montenegro manager praises Guler
Speaking in a recent interview, Montenegro national team manager Robert Prosinecki, who once played for Real Madrid, gave his two cents on Real Madrid sensation Arda Guler and his situation at Real Madrid.
“Arda Guler has great potential. I don’t know if Carlo Ancelotti will give him more opportunities to have the minutes he would like.”
“I can’t say anything about Ancelotti’s decisions; but from my point of view, Arda will get better every day, he will have many more minutes step by step,” he added.
He also praised the youngster for his brilliant understanding of the game and in-game decisions. “His IQ is at a high level. He is a very dominant player with the ball. He always thinks about attacking.”
Too early for a comparison
The former Real Madrid player was then quizzed on whether Guler would go on to become a legend like Luka Modric for club and country, to which he said,
“It is too early to answer the question of whether Güler will become a legend like Modric. Modric has gone through great stages, he has been playing at Real Madrid for more than ten years.”
“He is the captain of the Croatian national team, he has already played a World Cup and Nations League final,” he added about the legend.
Finally, he revealed what the Turkish phenom must do to become like Modric.
“Arda has a long way to go. To be like Modric he must consistently transform his potential into success on the field throughout his career.”
