Real Madrid are poised to enjoy a significant financial windfall, with reports from AS indicating that a victory in the UEFA Super Cup final could net them a substantial €5 million.
Both Real Madrid and Atalanta will share a lucrative prize fund of €9 million, which will be divided. However, the financial difference between winning the title and finishing as runners-up is minimal.
UEFA has allocated a fixed amount of €4 million to each team for simply making it to Warsaw, with the winner receiving an additional €1 million, bringing their total earnings to €5 million. Meanwhile, the team that finishes second will take home €4 million.
So much disparity between the Super Cup and the Champions League
While this may seem like a modest sum, especially when compared to the earnings from participating in the Champions League, it still highlights the financial rewards at stake.
For competing in the Champions League, each team is guaranteed a substantial €18.62 million as a fixed fee.
Furthermore, each victory in the Champions League is rewarded handsomely, with a payout of €2.1 million per win in this new phase.
Last season, Real Madrid earned an impressive €137 million from securing their 15th Champions League title.
New payment structure this season
This season, UEFA has introduced a new format, which will alter the way these earnings are calculated. The market pool and the 10-year ranking earnings will now be grouped into a new category called the value pillar.
Moreover, the prize pool for participation and results will see a significant increase of 32.5% and 52.2% respectively. However, with the expansion to 36 teams (from 32) and the increase in the number of matches to 189 (from 125), the competition will be more intense, requiring a minimum of 15 matches to secure the title instead of 13.
In total, UEFA will distribute €2.467 billion among the teams participating in the 2024-2025 Champions League, which is a 21% increase from the previous edition.
The distribution of this amount will be based on three main categories: the fixed fees for participation (€670 million), the results obtained (€914 million), and the value pillar (€853 million).
