Having signed for Real Madrid this past summer, Kylian Mbappe is all set to face his biggest test at the club this weekend as he comes up against arch-rivals FC Barcelona.
Indeed, the 25-year-old superstar is all set to feature in his first-ever El Clasico when Real Madrid host Barça at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night.
Mbappe’s start at the Spanish capital club has not been as strong as expected but he has still managed to find the back of the net regularly, scoring eight goals from 13 matches in all competitions.
Given his standing as one of the best forwards in the game currently, Mbappe will be expected to step up and deliver for Los Blancos this weekend.
Mbappe’s record against Barcelona
While Saturday’s match will be Mbappe’s first El Clasico, the French superstar has faced Barcelona already on a number of occasions in his career.
Indeed, the 25-year-old forward has crossed paths on four occasions against Barcelona during his PSG days in the Champions League and has enjoyed a fruitful record.
Of his four matches against the Blaugrana, Mbappe has won two, drawn one, and lost one.
Mbappe’s first clash with Barcelona came in the 2020/21 Champions League Round of 16 first leg, where PSG secured a commanding 4-1 victory, with the forward stealing the show with a hat-trick. In the return leg, which ended 1-1, he found the back of the net again.
Last season’s UCL brought another encounter in the quarter-finals. Though PSG lost the first leg 3-2 with Mbappe failing to score, the French side turned it around with a convincing 4-1 victory in the return leg, where the Real Madrid summer signing contributed two goals.
Mbappe’s overall record against Barcelona stands at an impressive six goals in four matches.
The upcoming El Clasico will mark a new chapter in Mbappe’s career, as he dons the white shirt of Real Madrid against Barcelona for the first time. His previous success against the Catalans could prove crucial for Carlo Ancelotti’s men in this highly anticipated fixture.
