Kylian Mbappe’s Swedish getaway sparks controversy amid national team absence

The captaincy of a national team does not come cheap. It comes with a large amount of responsibility and accountability and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe is paying the price for the same now.

Mbappe, who did not travel to join his teammates in the French national team during the ongoing international break, has come under fire as revealed by Mundo Deportivo after he was spotted in Sweden earlier this week.

A question of accountability

The Real Madrid forward did not travel to link up with Didier Deschamps’ side with the manager citing that his captain was not at his complete fitness and that he would remain in Madrid to recover. However, his decision did not go down well with the fans.

Having started and featured for Real Madrid in the final game before the hiatus against Villarreal, many questioned Mbappe’s decision to skip the international games and called him out for prioritising club over country.

Now spotted in Sweden at a restaurant and then at a club, a lot of noise is being generated in France over Mbappe’s absence. After all, it does not paint a good picture of the player.

It remains to be seen if all is indeed well between Mbappe and the French dressing room, especially considering the fight that erupted last month.

Until then, Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni is leading Les Bleus from the front.

So far this season, Mbappe has played eight La Liga games for the Merengues, scoring five goals and providing one assist in the process. While the numbers appear flowery, he is far from adapted to his new club and most of his goals have come from the spot.
