La Liga legend waxes lyrical over Real Madrid superstar – ‘The best I’ve ever seen’

Speaking on Radio MARCA, former Real Madrid and Valencia goalkeeper, Santi Canizares, has called Thibaut Courtois the best goalkeeper he has ever seen.

Canizares, a former Real Madrid youth academy product and a legend at Valencia, was in awe of Courtois’ abilities, claiming that the Belgian superstar is better than anyone he has ever seen in action.

“I’m a bit of a pain in the arse about Courtois. For me he’s the best goalkeeper I’ve ever seen, I really think so, I haven’t seen a better goalkeeper than him,” said the former Spanish international.

Continuing to wax lyrical over the Real Madrid shot-stopper, Canizares highlighted how Courtois has not conceded a single goal in the six games after he returned from an ACL injury.

The Spaniard also touched upon the Belgian’s brilliant save during the UEFA Super Cup clash against Atalanta last night with the scoreline at 0-0, remarking:

“Yesterday he made a save that 80 per cent of goalkeepers don’t get to and there’s another 20 per cent that get to once in a lifetime.”

Comparing Courtois’ ability in goal to peak Lionel Messi’s goalscoring prowess, Canizares added:

“It already seems logical to me, like in Messi’s time when he scored goals every weekend, as if it were easy. Courtois stops the ones that go into the corner of the goal as if it was usual in football and it’s not.

“This guy saves them in August, September, all the time. It’s a stratospheric thing. I doubt you’ll see anyone who looks like Courtois.”

“It looks like Courtois plays in indoor football goals because it looks like it’s simple,” concluded Canizares.
