Lionel Messi enjoyed some necessary R&R following the Copa America championship game.
The Argentinian soccer star’s wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, shared photos on Instagram of the couple enjoying a boat day in Florida with some friends, including Uruguay soccer stalwart Luis Suarez and his wife, Sofia Balbi.
While Roccuzzo rocked a hot pink bikini, Messi, who went down with a tournament-ending ankle injury just minutes before his team won its second straight Copa title, sported red swim trunks paired with a medical walking boot on his right foot.
Despite their captain’s emotional exit in the 64th minute, Argentina edged out Columbia 1-0 in extra time thanks to Lautaro Martínez’s 112th-minute goal.
Martínez later ran to the bench to hug Messi after the goal that propelled Argentina to its 16th Copa title.
The forward’s only goal in the tournament came during a 2-0 semifinal victory over Canada, where he celebrated with a limp.
While the timeline for the 36-year-old’s return remains uncertain, Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami – leading the Eastern Conference – eagerly awaits his comeback.
Roccuzzo’s post included a selfie featuring her husband’s Inter Miami teammate Suárez, who scored a late critical equalizer against Canada, taking the game to penalties where Uruguay secured third place.
Uruguay now trails Argentina by just one with 15 Copa championship titles.
Upon Messi’s return, he and Suárez will reunite on the pitch for Miami (16-5-4) as they aim for a playoff appearance.
Messi and his wife met as teenagers in Argentina, began dating in 2008 and tied the knot in 2017.
The couple has three children: Thiago (11), Matteo (8) and Ciro (6).
