Lucas Vazquez talks Mbappe, Endrick, Guler, Martinez, Real Madrid captaincy, contract renewal

Real Madrid veteran Lucas Vazquez shared his excitement and pride about wearing the captain’s armband during the team’s pre-season match against AC Milan. For Vazquez, leading his team in such a prestigious role is truly a significant honour.

In the game against AC Milan, Vazquez had a notable performance. While Milan’s attacking threats were not focused on his side, he made a considerable impact with his forward runs and attacking contributions.

Although he didn’t manage to set up any goals, his efforts to push forward and join the attack were evident throughout the match.

His constant movement up the field and his connection with his teammates showed his dedication and readiness.

Honour to be Real Madrid’s captain

Vazquez’s commitment to his role is apparent from the beginning of the pre-season. His fitness and stamina are in excellent condition, allowing him to continue making runs and combining well with his teammates even as the game progressed.

Although they didn’t create many clear-cut chances, his persistence and willingness to contribute both offensively and defensively were clear indicators of his dedication.

“Captain’s armband? Today I had to wear it and it is a real honour. I am very happy with that,” said Vazquez after the match as quoted by AS.

He added, “I’m happy about the renewal and being where I wanted to be. On a personal level, I’m trying to help the team and improve on last season. In football, you always have something to learn.

When asked about his role on the team, Vazquez emphasised that it does not matter where he plays. His primary focus is to be on the field and contribute in any way he can to support his team.

This selfless attitude highlights his commitment to Real Madrid and his readiness to step up, regardless of the position he is assigned.

“Playing as a fullback? The important thing is to be on the field and help the team in any way I can. I have to perform where the coach tells me to.”

Thoughts on Arda Guler, Mbappe Endrick

In the same match, Arda Guler and Endrick made their appearances in Real Madrid’s attack. Though he did not score, his performance was noteworthy. He demonstrated impressive ball control and vision with his passes.

His ability to execute precise touches and deliver effective deep passes added a lot of value to the team’s attacking play. Furthermore, his work rate was commendable.

Even though he played as a winger, he didn’t shy away from dropping back to help in defence, showing his willingness to contribute in all areas of the pitch.

Speaking about his performance and Endrick’s debut, Vazquez was impressed with what he saw.

“Arda Güler really showed a great level last season and played great at the EUROs. It is clear that he has a huge potential and I am sure that we will see great moments from Arda.”

“Endrick seems to have very good potential. I think the last three training sessions he played with us were good. He just needs to get used to our playing style a little bit, but I see that he has amazing potential. He has a very great start,” explained the veteran.

The full-back also mentioned that everyone at the club is eager to play with Kylian Mbappe. “Mbappe is a world-class player and we are all looking forward to meeting him.

Lastly, he had some words reserved for young debutant Joan Martinez, saying that he is a defender with great potential.

“I wasn’t here at 16, he (Joan Martinez) is an incredible boy. He played very well today, he is a defender with great potential and we will help him evolve.”
