No Mbappe vs Mbappe as Real Madrid star’s brother injured before UCL showdown

When the draw for the League Phase of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League was held last month, one particular fixture would have caught the eye of Kylian Mbappe more than the rest.

After all, Real Madrid were drawn to face Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille – the club which Mbappe’s younger brother, Ethan, signed for this past summer after leaving PSG.

A Mbappe vs Mbappe clash appeared all set to take place at Stade Pierre-Mauroy but hopes of the siblings facing off took a hit when Kylian suffered a thigh injury earlier this month, which ruled him out for three weeks.

However, the French superstar was named in the Real Madrid squad for the trip to Lille, with it even being claimed that he had recovered earlier than anticipated and could play a part against his brother’s team.

Ethan Mbappe injured

Now, though, Le Parisien in France reports that while Kylian may have recovered, Ethan Mbappe is out injured for the next two to three months.

Indeed, as per the report, the teenage prospect has suffered a quadriceps injury and is set for a lengthy spell out on the sidelines, meaning there will be no Mbappe reunion this Wednesday when Real Madrid and Lille face off.

Ethan, 17, left PSG to sign Lille this past summer, but has made only four appearances thus far, totalling up to 80 minutes on the pitch.

The teenager had suffered an injury towards the end of August and went on to miss three games, but returned this past week against Le Havre, only to get injured again.

The young attacking midfielder is suffering from a ruptured quadriceps, which was revealed this morning after an MRI.

As such, fans will not be able to see the Mbappe siblings square off on the pitch this week. Whether this development prompts Real Madrid to not rush Kylian back into action will be interesting to see.
