Taking to social media, Real Madrid teenage gem Joan Martinez has announced that he has signed a new contract with the club.
Martinez, 17, is held in the highest regard at the club. The La Fabrica talent, who has been likened to legendary former captain Sergio Ramos, was part of the pre-season during the summer and was set to be included in the first-team setup.
However, an ACL injury put an end to those plans, with Martinez sidelined for a lengthy period after having undergone surgery.
But as a show of faith, Real Madrid entered into talks over a new contract with the teenage prodigy soon after his injury.
Reports confirmed that an agreement had been reached over a new deal with an improved salary and a higher release clause of €50 million.
Now, Martinez himself has announced on social media that he has indeed signed a new contract.
“I am very happy and excited to renew my contract with this great club, the best in the world. Now, more excited than ever, I’m ready for whatever is to come. Hala Madrid,” he wrote, along with a picture of himself.
The duration of the new deal has not been revealed but it is likely to be a long-term contract, with reports even suggesting that Martinez is already considered a first-team player and will be with the senior setup when he returns from injury.
