Predicting Every Result at Euro 2024

The European Championship is well under way and we’re getting a clearer picture of which teams could go all the way in Germany. Spain picked up maximum points to finish at the top of Group B, while the tournament hosts have also impressed under Julian Nagelsmann.

England, France, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands and Switzerland have all also qualified for the knockout stage, and all of them will be hopeful of going far over the next few weeks. GIVEMESPORT shared its predictions for the tournament and has been updating it as the group stage has gone on…

Group A

Germany win the group

Germany entered the Euros under pressure for two reasons. Firstly, they are the tournament hosts, and that naturally raises expectations. But, secondly, there is a sense that Julian Nagelsmann must put Die Mannschaft back on the football map after disappointing showings at the last three major tournaments.

Germany picked up maximum points from their opening two group games, beating Scotland 5-1 before a 2-0 win over Hungary. They required a late equaliser against Switzerland in their final group game to ensure they finished the first stage of the tournament as Group A winners.

Group A Confirmed Results

Matchday One

Germany 5-1 Scotland, Hungary 1-3 Switzerland

Matchday Two

Scotland 1-1 Switzerland, Germany 2-0 Hungary

Matchday Three

Switzerland 1-1 Germany, Scotland 0-1 Hungary

Group B

Croatia bow out

Many, including us, predicted Albania to be the whipping boys when the draw for the group stage was made but they impressed in all of their matches and might have progressed had they been handed an easier draw.

GIVEMESPORT predicted Spain to top this difficult group before the tournament started, and they were confirmed as group winners after just two group games. Italy, despite operating under the burden of the holder’s curse, had enough to finish second after their dramatic late equaliser against Croatia on match day three that ensured they finished ahead of Luka Modric and co, all but knocking their opponents out in the process.

Group C

England underwhelm but top the group

You never quite know what to expect when it comes to England and football, but one thing Gareth Southgate has always managed to achieve is an untroubled group stage at international tournaments. England did not impress during their first two group games but still head into match day three as Group C leaders.

Denmark should have enough to join them in the last 16, with Kasper Hjulmand boasting a deep pool of talent that includes the experienced heads of Christian Eriksen and Mathias Jensen, and the youthfulness of Rasmus Hojlund and Joachim Andersen.

Group C Predicted Results

Serbia 0-1 England, Slovenia 1-1 Denmark

Group D

France and Netherlands amass seven points each

France vs Netherlands was one of the standout fixtures when the group-stage draw was made, and although it was an intriguing encounter, the meeting ended up throwing up the first goalless draw of the tournament, with Xavi Simons’ strike controversially ruled out for offside.

France are favourites for glory, and their lethal attack is perhaps the best in the world, but they may have to do without Kylian Mbappe until the knockout stages after he suffered a broken nose in their win against Austria. Mbappe was on the bench against the Netherlands but did not enter the field, suggesting there are some doubts over his condition.

Group E

Belgium struggle

It was only two years ago that Belgium sat at the top of the world rankings, and while Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku are within their ranks, they will always pose a threat. However, their Euro 2024 campaign got off to the worst possible start as they were stunned by Slovakia.

GIVEMESPORT still backed them to win the group, though, and they are in a strong position to do so having bounced back in their second group game against Romania. Each team goes into match day three knowing that they can all still progress, with all four sides level on three points each after two games.

Group F

Portugal top the group and Czechia advance

Portugal did not play well in their group-stage opener against Czechia, and needed a late strike to ensure a 2-1 victory. They were far more impressive in their second group game against Turkey, with Cristiano Ronaldo shining in a 3-0 victory.

Portugal are backed to qualify for the last 16 with a 100 per cent record in the group stage, but it is still up in the air as to who will join them from Group F. Turkey were impressive in their opening group game but were then easily beaten by Portugal, while Czechia and Georgia followed up defeats on match day one by drawing with each other on match day two, leaving them with just a point each.

Group F Predicted Results

Matchday One

Turkey 3-1 Georgia, Portugal 2-1 Czechia

Matchday Two

Turkey 0-3 Portugal, Georgia 1-1 Czechia

Matchday Three

Georgia 1-4 Portugal, Czechia 2-2 Turkey

Round of 16

Austria’s run continues and Portugal march on

We’re not predicting any major upsets at this stage. Germany will have enough to get past Denmark, while Italy will send the Swiss packing and Spain are tipped to beat Slovakia, who squeezed into the knockouts as one of the best third-placed teams. Hungary squirmed into the knockouts too, but the last 16 is where their involvement will end at the hands of Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal.

The Netherlands are backed to beat Romania, while the impressive Austrians will beat Belgium 2-1. England will have enough to get past Czechia, with a 2-1 victory predicted and France are backed to hammer Turkey.

Round of 16 Results

Germany 2-0 Denmark

Switzerland 1-2 Italy

Spain 3-0 Slovakia

England 2-1 Czechia

Portugal 4-0 Hungary

Netherlands 2-1 Romania

Belgium 1-2 Austria

France 4-0 Turkey

Quarter-finals

England progress again

If GIVEMESPORT does have a crystal ball ahead of the Euros, then it’ll be at the quarter-final stage where the transfixing narratives are forged. In a repeat of the Euro 2020 final, England will take Italy to penalties, but instead, will be on the right end of the shootout this time around after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Germany will crash out on home soil, losing to Spain, while Austria’s remarkable run will come to an end at the hands of France, who have a masked Mbappe to thank for a match-winning brace, and Portugal will shine once more against the Netherlands via a comfortable 2-0 win.

Quarter-final Results

Spain 3-1 Germany

Portugal 2-0 Netherlands

Austria 1-2 France

England 1-1 Italy

Semi-finals

Heartbreak for the Three Lions

GIVEMESPORT predicts that England will be reminded of previous tournaments via both positive and negative outcomes at Euro 2024. Firstly, they will be riding on the high of a penalty shoot-out victory over Italy, but then be immediately brought back down to earth by a loss to France – the same opposition that ended their hopes of World Cup glory in 2022.

England have struggled against the biggest teams at tournaments under Southgate and this is where shortcomings will crop up again in a month’s time, with Kylian Mbappe and Co relishing a third win on the bounce against the Three Lions. Portugal are tipped by GIVEMESPORT to emerge victorious in the other semi-final with a 3-1 victory over Spain.

Semi-final Results

Portugal 3-1 Spain

England 0-2 France

Final

France secure fourth European Championship

In the space of just two years, Mbappe will have gone toe-to-toe with both Ronaldo and Messi in two major international finals. But while his first battle – against Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final – ended in defeat, another narrative that will widen the eyes of the scriptwriters will see the Frenchman welcome the news of his long-awaited Real Madrid move with a European Championship triumph over his new club’s former talismanic hero Cristiano Ronaldo.

Portugal shocked the world to get to this stage ahead of the likes of England and Germany, but their fairy tale summer will come to a crashing finish through a 3-0 defeat to truly confirm Mbappe as the new best footballer on the planet.

Final Result

France 3-0 Portugal
