PSG boss Luis Enrique: “I wish Mbappe the best, but I also hope that Madrid loses against us”

Reigning French champions Paris Saint-Germain are set to kickstart their Ligue 1 campaign as they take on Le Havre this evening.

PSG will be starting the new season without the services of the talismanic Kylian Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer.

Speaking ahead of the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique reacted explosively to a question about Mbappe’s absence in the locker room.

Enrique’s response to Mbappe question

Enrique’s reactive response came after a journalist asked the Spaniard about how PSG are coping without the services of Mbappe.

“How boring these Spaniards are (the coach says to the journalist). I didn’t think that people would talk to me about Kylian again,” Enrique replied (h/t RMC Sport).

Mbappe’s decision to join Real Madrid this summer saw him end his long spell at PSG, which saw him feature in over 300 competitive matches.

During this period, the Frenchman racked up 256 goals and more than 100 assists. Mbappe’s performances under Luis Enrique was excellent as well, with the forward racking up 44 goals in 48 appearances.

Explaining his relationship with Mbappe, Luis Enrique added, “I had no problem with Kylian, I wish Mbappe and his brother Ethan the best. But I also hope that Madrid loses against us.”

It must be noted that in addition to Kylian, PSG also offloaded his brother Ethan Mbappe, who joined LOSC Lille on a free transfer.

Kylian Mbappe, meanwhile, had an extraordinary start to his career at Real Madrid, as he netted in his debut against Atalanta, in the UEFA Super Cup final.

Real Madrid fans will hope this is the first of many goals he will score for Los Merengues in the years to come.
