Real Madrid’s defensive lineup has been in flux for several months due to ongoing injury issues with Austrian centre-back David Alaba.
Since joining the club in the summer of 2021, Alaba has been a key figure in Real Madrid’s defensive setup, known for his versatility and leadership.
However, his time at the club has been marred by a series of injury setbacks that have limited his contributions on the pitch.
Alaba sustained a serious injury towards the end of last year, which initially led to optimism about his return during Real Madrid’s pre-season preparations.
Unfortunately, despite the initial recovery plans, the injury has proven more persistent than anticipated. This has led to significant disruptions in coach Carlo Ancelotti’s plans for the new season.
Alaba to return later than expected
Now, in yet another major blow, Alaba’s recovery appears to be progressing slower than expected.
Speaking to Diario AS, former Austrian footballer Christian Fuchs shed light on the situation, stating, “I saw him at the Eurocup, on the bench, celebrating the goals, and I expected to see him here, but Ancelotti told me that he had stayed in Madrid recovering, that his injury has lasted a little longer.”
This revelation underscores what had been an open secret within the football community: Alaba’s return will be delayed beyond initial expectations.
Currently, Alaba continues to work individually in Madrid, focusing on his recovery with the goal of returning to full fitness.
Ancelotti and the Real Madrid medical team are prioritizing a complete recovery, emphasizing that rushing the comeback could pose additional risks.
Fuchs offered a note of encouragement, stating, “The important thing at that age is not to rush to return, to be sure that if you return, it is because you are at your best.”
“Sometimes injuries make you a better player, coming back stronger, and working on your weaknesses. And I would say that Alaba is going to come back stronger,” he added.
