Real Madrid €25 million-rated star remains undecided over future – report

It has been a difficult few months for Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

The Ukrainian international was on the top of the world not very long ago, starting games regularly for the club and ensuring that Thibaut Courtois’ absence through injury was not felt.

However, as soon as the Belgian international returned, Lunin went back to being the second-fiddle, even having to sit out of the UEFA Champions League final.

A shoddy start to the UEFA Euro 2024 with Ukraine saw him lose his starting spot in the national team as well – something that he is yet to recover, having left on the bench during the current international break as well.

Future still undecided

Given Lunin’s situation towards the back end of the last season, he was heavily linked with a summer exit from Real Madrid, but nothing came of it, due to a lack of concrete offers.

Now, even though it has been suggested that the 25-year-old will likely leave in 2025 when his contract expires, Mundo Deportivo reports that the shot-stopper still remains undecided over his future.

Lunin’s contract with Los Blancos runs down in less than a year and he could depart as a free agent when it happens. But the club have put forth a five-year renewal offer until 2029 for him.

As such, the 25-year-old, who has been nominated for the Yachine Trophy for his contributions last season, is still yet to define his future.

As mentioned earlier, Lunin is back to being the second choice at Real Madrid with Courtois reclaiming his spot in goal, meaning the Ukrainian has not played a single minute of football so far.

That, coupled with his mishap at the Euros, have affected his situation with the national team, too. So, the possibility of Lunin leaving as a free agent next year would appear to be highly likely.
