Real Madrid €25 million-rated star’s imminent renewal does not rule out future exit

As reported earlier today, Real Madrid and Andriy Lunin have reached an agreement over a new contract that will keep him at the club for four more years.

The 25-year-old Ukrainian international’s current deal was set to run out in a little under a year, in 2025, at which point he was touted to leave the club as a free agent.

However, the goalkeeper has now agreed a new deal that will run until the summer of 2028.

Lunin’s extension does not guarantee continuity

However, according to The Athletic’s Guillermo Rai, Lunin’s imminent contract renewal does not guarantee a prolonged stay for the 25-year-old at Real Madrid.

Indeed, as per the journalist, the renewal does not mean that he cannot leave in the next transfer windows.

Lunin, who is back to playing second-fiddle to Thibaut Courtois at Real Madrid this season, seriously considering leaving in the summer. However, the offers that arrived were not to the liking of the player or the club.

As such, he is now penning a new deal, but that does not rule out the possibility of an exit in the future windows.

After all, the Ukrainian had stressed during the summer that he wanted to play more – something that is not guaranteed at Real Madrid.

Indeed, Lunin has played zero minutes in Los Blancos’ five matches this season while he was deprived of minutes during the international break with Ukraine as well.

As such, one can expect Lunin and Real Madrid to assess his situation once again come summer of 2025, despite the imminent renewal, and make a decision on his future based on his performances, minutes, as well as the offers that arrive.
