Real Madrid forward fine after dealing with lower back discomfort vs Atletico

This past Sunday night turned out to be one to forget for Real Madrid as they failed to take advantage of Barcelona’s slip-up in La Liga, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Atletico Madrid at the Civitas Metropolitano.

An injury-time equaliser from Angel Correa cost Los Blancos valuable two points on the night. Apart from the result, Carlo Ancelotti’s men were also dealt some fitness concerns following the trip to their cross-town rivals.

Thibaut Courtois returned with an abductor muscle issue and is now confirmed to be sidelined until at least the international break is over.

Meanwhile, Fran Garcia also suffered a blow on his ankle from the horrific challenge by Marcos Llorente. Thankfully, the 25-year-old is OK and trained normally today.

Rodrygo also fine

Another concern for Real Madrid was Rodrygo’s condition after the 23-year-old forward was spotted dealing with discomfort in his lower back.

But, according to Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, the Brazilian international was tested by the club’s medical staff today and the attacker is fully fine.

Rodrygo was seen clutching his lower back as early as the half-time break and was spotted leaving the pitch with a member of Real Madrid’s medical staff, raising concerns.

But the 23-year-old attacker did come out after the break and continued to play until the 90th minute when he made way for Fran Garcia.

The report suggests that Rodrygo did return from the Metropolitano with discomfort in his lower back, but tests have revealed no injury and the forward is fully fine.

This will come as a relief for Real Madrid, who are already having to deal with the absence of another forward, Kylian Mbappe, who is out for at least three weeks with a muscle issue.
