Real Madrid forward on the brink of surpassing club legend in UEFA Champions League

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe is on the verge of surpassing a significant milestone in European football.

The French forward, despite facing intense criticism recently, has the chance to overtake legendary Real Madrid forward Alfredo Di Stefano. Mbappe has already scored 49 goals in the prestigious European Cup/Champions League, placing him level with Di Stefano.

A goal against Borussia Dortmund tonight would push him past the legendary figure, solidifying his place as one of the club’s all-time greats.

Top scorer’s list

While Mbappe eyes this record, it is important to note that the all-time top scorer in the Champions League remains Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward has an astounding 141 goals, a record that includes qualifying rounds.

Following Ronaldo is Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who netted 129 goals. With both players now out of European competitions, the focus shifts to other top performers.

Robert Lewandowski, currently with Barcelona, is third in the all-time rankings with 96 goals, and he remains an active threat in the competition.

Real Madrid have historically boasted some of the finest strikers in Europe. Karim Benzema is fourth with 90 goals, while another Madrid legend, Raul, sits fifth with 71 goals.

Behind them are other well-known names such as Ruud van Nistelrooy (60 goals), Andriy Shevchenko (59 goals), Thomas Muller (54 goals), Thierry Henry (51 goals), and Filippo Inzaghi (50 goals).

Mbappe, alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Di Stefano, and Mohamed Salah, all share 49 goals in the competition.

Mbappe reached his 49th goal in a match against Stuttgart earlier this season at Santiago Bernabeu.

Now, with the upcoming fixture against Borussia Dortmund, he has the opportunity to break Di Stefano’s record.

This achievement would further cement Mbappe’s growing legacy at Real Madrid and in European football as he continues to add to his impressive tally.
