Real Madrid icon set to leave Castilla after six years, could join Ancelotti’s staff

Back in the summer, it was reported that Raul Gonzalez was contemplating an exit as Real Madrid Castilla coach.

But there was nothing to it and the club legend continued at the helm of affairs of the Merengues’ reserve team.

Raul, who joined RM Castilla as head coach in 2019, has enjoyed immense success in Real Madrid’s subsidiary squad. He has played a key role in nurturing multiple young players in the academy, though very few of them have been able to establish themselves in the first team.

Raul set to leave RM Castilla

Now, a report from MARCA suggests Raul may finally leave Castilla as head coach at the end of the season.

The former Real Madrid striker has already finalised his decision and has informed the board, with Juvenil A coach Alvaro Arbeloa all set to take over.

Arbeloa will become the coach of Real Madrid Castilla next season, whereas Raul will consider his prospects elsewhere.

Raul may not leave Real Madrid

However, Raul putting an end to his spell at Castilla does not necessarily mean he will leave Real Madrid.

In fact, there are two potential scenarios for the former Schalke striker – both of which could see him continue at Real Madrid.

The first option is to become the director of Castilla, which will grant him greater powers within the Real Madrid youth system.

Another option will be to join Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching staff. The Italian has been eyeing more additions to his technical staff for quite some time now and Raul, to that end, could be a great option.

However, it must be noted that Ancelotti may not continue at Real Madrid for long, with the club considering the possibility of bringing in Xabi Alonso in 2025.

One thing is for sure – Raul is not considering leaving the Real Madrid camp right now.
