Real Madrid on high alert as former defender gathers interest, entitled to 50% of transfer fee

Ferland Mendy’s red card on match-day 1 of La Liga leaves the management challenged in the position early in the season.

Fran Garcia is indeed a more than able backup and Los Blancos are blessed to have two reliable and understanding players in the same position.

Yet, it is no secret that the men in white are seriously interested in Alphonso Davies and will sign him within the next year.

Needless to say, this comes as a big blow to the existing left-backs, especially Garcia, and some academy stars outside the club hoping for a return. One such youngster is Miguel Gutierrez.

Alert to his situation

The Spanish full-back left Los Blancos for a fee of €4 million in August 2022 and has become an integral part of Michel’s Girona in recent years.

Now crowned an Olympic Champion with Spain in Paris 2024, a transfer to a bigger club is not ruled out and Real Madrid are attentive to his situation.

As revealed in a report by AS, Los Blancos do not plan on utilising their €8 million buyback clause on the player. However, they still have 50% of the player’s rights and could thus receive a significant sum as a transfer fee.

Needless to say, the administration is eager to maximise the funds from Gutierrez’s sale. As such, the report adds that there may even be a possibility of Real Madrid signing Gutierrez by using the buyback option only to sell him for a profit.

It is said that they are very attentive to the clubs interested in his signing and whether he will end up with a direct rival.

Last season, the 23-year-old made 35 appearances in La Liga and recorded two goals and seven assists in that duration. Further, he created a staggering 21 big chances and averaged 1.2 key passes per game.

With the door back to Real Madrid closed, the coming weeks will be interesting to follow in the case of Gutierrez. After all, the youngster is at the perfect stage in his career to push to the next level.
