Real Madrid priority target for 2025 not ruling out transfer

After securing the services of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick this summer, Real Madrid have already identified their headline signing for 2025, and it is none other than Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.

One of the most in-demand players in Europe, 21-year-old Wirtz is attracting serious interest from Real Madrid and their arch-rivals Barcelona while other top teams like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also in the race.

Wirtz, after enjoying an extremely successful campaign with Leverkusen in 2023/24, is expected to continue with the Bundesliga champions for one more season.

However, it has been suggested that it may well be the German international’s final season with Die Werkself given the amount of interest he is garnering.

When asked about the possibility of this being his last campaign with Leverkusen and an exit in 2025, Wirtz replied (h/t Mundo Deportivo):

“I don’t have a timetable, so I don’t have any ideas about that yet.”

While he insisted that he was happy to be back training with Leverkusen ahead of the new season, Wirtz did not entirely rule out that it might very well be his last with the club.

“I’m very happy to be able to play football again after the summer break and to be back here. I’m just trying to get back to achieving my goals with the team,” he said.

“At some point, it will become clear what’s going on. But… I don’t have a timetable,” he warned.

While Wirtz has kept his cards close to his chest about a future exit, Real Madrid are understood to be confident about signing the 21-year-old sensation in 2025.

Any move for the German international will not come cheap with Bayer Leverkusen valuing him at €130 million.

In fact, reports in Germany a couple of months back went as far as suggesting that Los Blancos would even be willing to splash €150 million to sign Wirtz, making them the frontrunners for his signing.
