Brahim Diaz’s injury was largely expected to change the situation of Arda Guler this season, for many saw the Spanish-Morccan star to be his primary competitor.
Despite his absence, however, Guler’s struggle for minutes has continued and he has barely featured for Real Madrid in their recent games.
In fact, the youngster has seen just over 30 minutes in the team’s last six games across all competitions with no action at all in the last three outings.
Guler’s conviction
As revealed by MARCA in a recent update, Guler is happy in Madrid but also realises that he requires regular minutes to keep growing at his age.
His future is, thus, unclear although the player only dreams of succeeding in Madrid. This season will be key in helping him make his decision as it will clarify if he has a place in the team’s plans for the medium term.
Guler’s final call will depend not only on the prominence he sees this season but also the projection of his involvement for the upcoming campaign and the pressure is now on Carlo Ancelotti to show the player that he has a place in the team.
The manager’s argument against Guler’s participation is simply that he has too many players who cannot be dropped from the starting lineup owing to their aura and impact.
Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo are all ahead of Guler in the attacking department while Aurelien Tchouameni, Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde are all undroppable in midfield.
Luka Modric and Eduardo Camavinga only add to the list of players ahead of the Turkish star on Ancelotti’s pecking order.
Hence, it remains to be seen how the manager accommodates minutes for Guler in the calendar, for the youngster has shown talent whenever given a chance. The only hope is that his minutes will improve as the calendar grows ruthlessly hectic.
